I finally got all of the recording equipment for the lab students in the mail. New hint - it takes 10 days to get shipping boxes when you order them from the post office!
Been a frustrating week - but a typical research time- we asked 5 faculty (who agreed) to rate our earliest memory data, only 2 returned them. Don't be surprised when such things happen... annoying? YES! But that is the way of things. We will ask a few more people, and hopefully, eventually we will get this project finished.
I so often see student researchers have elaborate research designs requiring huge numbers of participants, and end up only getting a fraction of the people they need. You must have a Plan B (and may need a Plan C or D) as to how you will get the necessary number of participants. Plan ahead - remember any changes you make from your original design must be approved by the IRB before you can proceed, resulting in more delays. So think about how will you get the people you need? Where else might your potential participants be? A senior center? A community group? Church? Make sure you consider how these new people may be different/ similar to your Plan A ones.
